See our cat (who thinks he is actually hiding)…

See Ellie want to chase the cat…

See how her lead, while hooked to a stake, is also wrapped around C’s chair leg to stop her…hopefully!

Menu Plan Monday

A week doesn’t seem like a long period of time, but a lot of change can happen in a week.  I wrote about losing our precious border collie a couple of weeks ago and we didn’t know if or when we would get another dog.  C & I both love dogs, but losing Patches hurt so much we weren’t sure if we wanted to go through that again.  Sometimes fate intervenes and it sure did this time.

A young lady that C works with had to move and could not take her dog with her.  She had rescued “Ellie”, a two year old Siberian Husky, and didn’t want to have to take her back to a shelter again.  C found out last Thursday about the dog, we got her on Friday, and she is now a permanent fixture in our home.  Meet Ellie…

She LOVES long walks, even at 5:00am!  The only trouble we have had has been with Mama Cat.  She does not appreciate this new addition at all, especially since Ellie is inside and Mama C is not!

Anyway, below is my menu plan for the week.  Hopefully, we will have a wonderful first week with Ellie in our lives.

Grilled pork chops with roasted potatoes & salad

Sausage bake

Grilled steaks and potato wedges with salad

Pizza night

Chess Squares

Also, I thought I would share a view of the Little Barren River that flows past the farm we live on.  Check out my new header photo!

Raised Bed Success

I am so happy with the progress in our raised garden bed.  The potatoes are growing like crazy.  I am putting extra dirt and compost around them every few days and there are still new plants sprouting.  The cucumber plants have blooms and baby cucumbers on them, and the sweet pepper plants are starting to bud.  The herbs are growing as well as the lettuce.  Our strawberries are doing great, too.  Even though they are small, they are still getting ready to bloom!  We do have a very sad note to add to this, Baby-Cat is no longer with us.  Tuesday evening, we found her under the bay window and she was so weak she wouldn’t respond at all.  We started feeding her with a dropper and took her into the utility room for safety.  She lived until Thursday morning when she died in C’s arms while he was trying to feed her.  We have been so sad in losing Baby-C.  She was only here for a short time, but we loved her very much.  She didn’t look sick at all, so we think that a male cat may have tried to hurt her to get to her mother.  Godspeed, Baby-C! We will miss you!

Dog Day Afternoon

I think Patches was trying to tell us something after he had been playing for a while.  It was something like, “Stop pointing that camera at me and let me take a nap!” Or it could have been, “Couldn’t you have used something softer to build this deck?  A dog can’t get comfy!”
